Industria, oficio y género en la industria textil catalana, 1833-1923

En este artículo analizamos el papel que los obreros cualificados u oficiales juegan en la industria textil catalana entre 1833 y 1923. Argumentamos que un elemento clave para la comprensión de las relaciones laborales durante el siglo XIX es el intento por parte de los obreros masculinos de 'capturar' los nuevos procesos de producción en la hilatura y el tisaje e imponer sistemas informales de aprendizaje. Hasta los 1880 las estrategias por ellos seguidas tendrían bastante éxito sobre todo en el ramo de la hilatura. Sin embargo, a partir de estos años los industriales reaccionan contra el incremento de la competencia en el sector y a una recesión profunda tratando de intensificar la producción, socavar la posición de los hombres y en parte sustituirlos por mujeres. Esto comporta unas luchas sociales intensas y provoca el colapso de la federación sindical, las Tres Clases de Vapor, de carácter muy moderado, y su sustitución, a partir de principios del siglo xx, por otras organizaciones más radicalizadas. /// This article analyses the role that qualified workmen or officials played in the Catalan textile industry between 1833 and 1923. The argument is that a key item for understanding labour relations in the 19th century is the attempt by male workers to 'take over' the new production processes in spinning and weaving and to impose informal apprenticeship systems. Until the 1880s the strategies they used were fairly successful, above all in the realm of spinning, but from this time on industrialists reacted against the increase in competition in the sector and a deep recession by attempting to intensify production, undermine the position of men and partially replace them with women. This entailed intense social struggles and led to the collapse of the union federation, the Tres Clases de Vapor, of a very moderate nature, and its replacement, from the early 20th century, with other more radical organisations.
