Abstract
This paper characterises the dynamic coupling interaction between the thigh and an electrical semi-active above knee prosthesis. This prosthetic knee works as a passive knee in part of the gait cycle phases and as an active knee prosthesis during other parts. The knee prosthesis is designed to be back-drivable in passive mode. The results of the experimental work carried out to evaluate the dynamic coupling effect in both passive and active mode show that the prosthesis weight has an important effect on the performance.
