Abstract
How can contemporary architecture mediate and transcend the opposing binaries of its inside (autonomy) and outside (engagement) at its most peripheral? This paper articulates the idea of elementary form, with which architecture empowers its critical agency to the ethnic citizenship and identity of Indigenous Shui in the peripheral southwestern China, via an exemplar case study on the architecture of Indigenous Shui Cultural Center by West-Line Studio.
