Two Years to Independence: A Case Study of the Don Robins House

This report, titled Two Years to Independence: A Case Study of the Don Robins House, presents an evaluation of the Don Robins House (DRH) project established by St. George’s Crypt in 2021. The initiative was developed to provide a safe, supportive, and structured environment for individuals seeking to transition towards stable, long-term, and independent living.

The study draws on interviews with both the staff who manage and oversee the Don Robins House and the residents themselves. It explores how effective this model has been in supporting residents’ personal development and independence, as well as the challenges and areas for improvement identified through their lived experiences. The report examines key aspects such as safety and security, available support services, accommodation facilities, community and social engagement, equality, diversity and inclusion, and residents’ preparedness for future independent living.

Findings highlight the strengths of the DRH model, the positive impact on residents’ confidence and stability, and the ongoing need for such targeted interventions. The report also outlines recommendations informed by residents’ feedback and insights from staff. These findings aim to inform St. George’s Crypt’s future strategy and provide evidence to support wider policy discussions and the development of similar projects to address homelessness across the UK.
