A Critical Evaluation of DNA analysis for Palaeopathological Research

Abstract

This research essay critically evaluates the application of DNA analysis to current palaeopathological Research. The history of DNA analysis for the field of Palaeopathology is described, key components of the analysis are explained, and the basic limitations of the technique are explored. Applications of DNA analysis to differentiate diseases, explore disease origin, and understand how diseases interacted with other diseases in the past. The paper concludes that DNA analysis has become a key component of Palaeopathological Research which is best used in conjunction with other analytical techniques.
