Abstract
Published in French, this article outlines a personal view of the strengths and weaknesses, in relation to autonomy and teacher creativity, of the English education system. The article presents an overview of an oral presentation at a conference in Paris held in June 2016 to mark the conclusion of a 2-year monthly seminar programme, « École et République », hosted by le Collège des Bernadins, Paris, 2014-16.
