Jarrett, JA (Completed: 2015) Small Change and Big Changes: minting and money after the Fall of Rome. UNSPECIFIED. (Unpublished)
Abstract
The Roman Empire's cash economy failed in the west as the empire did, leaving in use rare gold coins of steadily worsening quality. In the Byzantine East, however, money remained a plentiful everyday phenomenon. Returning to the Barber to open this series of lectures for Inheriting Rome: the imperial legacy in coinage and culture, the exhibition's curator Dr Jarrett explains how money could and could no longer be used across the post-Roman world.
