Adopting ORCID at University of York

Within the information science, publishing and research support communities the need for unique and persistent authors and researchers identifiers for is well established. ORCID iDs have come to be established as a forerunner in this area. However, adoption of ORCID iDs within the wider research community is vital to its success and attitudes towards, and understanding of, such identifier is still mixed.

The ORCID project at University of York was part of the larger Jisc-ARMA ORCID pilot project (http://orcidpilot.jiscinvolve.org/wp/). The aim was to engage with researchers in a number of disciplines to find the best ways in which to encourage them to adopt ORCID within research publication workflows. This was supported by embedding ORCID within the university’s Current Research Information System and within a shared research repository.

This poster presents our experience of trying to adopt ORCID iD use within a UK higher education context at University of York. It highlights some of the findings of our work with researchers, the approaches we have adopted, the successes and lessons learned from the project, and the future directions and hopes for ORCID at York.
