Banks, S.P (1981) On the Optimal Control of Residual Stresses in High Temperature Materials. Research Report. ACSE Report 149 . Department of Control Engineering, University of Sheffield, Mappin Street, Sheffield
Abstract
When a material body changes temperature nonuniformally, stresses are induced due to nonhomogeneous straining and if these stresses exceed the plastic yield limit, a proportion of them may be "locked into" the material in the form of residlal stresses. In this paper we study the problem of controlling the temperature field, using point controllers on the boundary of the material, in order to minimize the residual stresses. The optimal selection of the control points is also considered.
