Abstract
Most university AI education remains siloed within technical departments, creating knowledge gaps for non-technical disciplines. This study examines a free, five-session workshop series designed to broaden AI education access for non-specialist university students and staff. Five sessions were delivered in both separate in-person and online formats to participants from >16 disciplines. We achieved 343 registrations with 93.8% satisfaction. Participants valued interactive elements, non-specialist explanations, and interdisciplinary discussions. Sustained engagement through post-workshop consultations and collaborative projects demonstrates effectiveness. Key success factors include progressive curriculum, hands-on practice, and integrated ethics. This replicable framework, with materials openly available on GitHub, demonstrates practical pathways to democratise AI education beyond traditional computer science boundaries.
