Abstract
We evaluated the corrosion of biodegradable metals Mg, Zn, and Fe in Zahrina’s interstitial fluid (ZIF P) for treatment of pelvic organ prolapse. The corrosion rates for Mg alloys EV31A and WE43 were similar to literature values 0.20–0.33 mm/y for in vivo subcutaneous implantation, indicating that ZIF P was a good model for Mg. ZIF P was not a good model for Zn. There is not enough in vivo data for Fe to make an assessment. BSA increased the corrosion rate of Mg attributed to BSA chelation, inhibited the corrosion of zinc, and had little effect on iron.
