“Àgbà(lagbà) ló mò’dí eéta”: Playing Dangerously as an Everyday Art in Taiwo Shango (1965)

In this article I discuss the cinematic representation of African modernity in Klaus Stephan’s film Taiwo Shango (1965). Using the Yorùbá saying “Àgbà(lagbà) ló mò’dí eéta” and the notion of “everyday” as tools of reference, I pay attention to how the film presents human relationships and material symbolism to capture an African society’s experience of change in Òkè Àjá, the story world.
