Abstract
Irish public law has a thriving body of scholarly work on judgments of the superior courts, but a focus on doctrinal and theoretical research fails to develop knowledge on how administrative law is understood and applied within public bodies. This is a missed opportunity to engage with different ways of conceptualising public law. The ongoing Law Reform Commission project on Non-Court Adjudicative Bodies and modernisation of public services present a timely opportunity to research ‘internal’ administrative law. This paper demonstrates how the field of administrative justice provides a useful and transposable conceptual framework to enhance the study of public law outside the courts.
