Abstract
At some point the Venezuelan-based broadcast network teleSUR aspired to become the Al-Jazeera of Latin America. That is, an alternative pan-continental news media that could set a distinctive agenda in the Global South. However, as this chapter explores, key issues around conceptualisation and implementation of the project led instead to unfulfilled expectations. The piece analyses the overall contribution of this Latin American experiment in the context to alternative voices and a new world information order.
