Abstract
Journalism exposes a key paradox, one that many of us who worked in the field are aware of. On the one hand there is the conviction that the newsroom is the centre of the universe, and on the other the certainty that it is one of the most isolated places on earth. This chapter discusses why journalists often do not engage with academic research about their own field and calls for a more transparent dialogue.
