Raymond Williams: language, history, practice

Raymond Williams is best known as a literary critic, and perhaps more importantly, as one of the founders of cultural studies. However, one aspect of Williams’ s work has been overlooked. What is it? This essay proclaims that it is his interpretation of language as a vital, creative and fundamental historical practice, as a medium by which we construct and re-construct ourselves and the world around us.
