Abstract
Over the years many slightly different classification systems have been developed to describe different structural water management measures. The aim of this document is to suggest a classification system that brings consistency over a wide range of measures that everybody can understand. To do this, the focus is on the performance of t he different measures in terms of flooding and water quantity and pollution and water quality. Other benefits, although an important consideration in the selection of measures to be used are not dealt with in detail in this document, because it wou ld take forever to do so.
