Abstract
• This article describes a ten-country European study investigating the practical aspects of exercising access rights from the perspective of data subjects. • It uses a mixture of quantitative and qualitative methodology to illustrate the restrictions faced by data subjects in exercising their access rights. • It concludes by making key recommendations to assist data subjects in their attempts to exercise access rights.
