Abstract
There is a need for empirical data to review design standards for pedestrian lighting. This paper presents a summary of two ongoing UK research projects, the MERLIN project which is examining lighting for pedestrians ’ visual tasks, and the LANTERN S project which is examining the effect of lighting on reported crime and accidents associated with pedestrians , discussing research methodology and t entative findings from the MERLIN project.
