Iqbal, R. and Edwards, J.B. (1994) Noise Analysis in Tracking the Features of a Spatially Distributed Field. Research Report. ACSE Research Report 501 . Department of Automatic Control and Systems Engineering
Abstract
This report investigates the robustness of the polynomial tracking algorithms (1), when the observation process of the tracked physical quantity is corrupted by white noise. The effect of the noise on the single scan and multiscan algorithms has been explored and means of possible improvements in the noise tolerance are identified. It has been shown that increasing the sampling interval renders improvement in the noise tolerance of the algorithms. Analytical results are verified by simulations and examples are given.
