Abstract
Neurogenic sarcoma is a rare tumour which has many synonyms, including neurofibrosarcoma, malignant Schwannoma, and malignant neurilemmoma. This diversity reflects the uncertainty regarding the cell of origin. Whilst it seems that the majority of neurogenic neoplasms, benign and malignant, are of Schwann cell origin, the possibility has been raised that they may be neurofibromatous. i.e., derived from perineural fibroblasts. An uncommitted attitude to the histogenesis of this group of tumours is adopted here by referring to them as neurogenic, either benign or sarcomatous.
