Abstract
Heating effects in a THz quantum cascade laser are observed on a sub-μs timescale by measuring the THz emission with a superconducting NbN detector. THz power is shown to degrade in pulsed laser operation as heat accumulates. Longer electrical pulses are shown to give greater degradation.
