Bubb, NL and Wood, DJ (2004) Reduction of the solubility of fluorcanasite based glass ceramics by additions of Sio2 and AIPO4. Glass Technology - European Journal of Glass Science and Technology Part A, 45 (2). 91 - 93. ISSN 0017-1050
Abstract
Fluorcanasite glass ceramics are of interest as materials for aesthetic dental restorations. In an attempt to control the solubility of a fluorcanasite glass ceramic, systematic additions of SiO2 and AlPO4 were made. Solubility was reduced from 2359 to 624 mgcm-2. There was an initial increase in biaxial flexural strength, 123– 222 MPa with small additions; however larger additions reduced the strength to 147 MPa. These findings were attributed to there being an increased volume fraction of residual glassy matrix.
