The Postgraduate Research Experience Survey (PRES): deep dive into supervision practices and experiences

This report seeks to leverage data from the Postgraduate Research Experience Survey (PRES) to gain insights into supervision practices and experiences. The analysis examines comments from the open questions in PRES, specifically: comments from the dedicated supervision section of PRES; relevant supervision-related comments from the overall experience questions; and references to supervision within comments about other PRES dimensions (resources, research community, progress and assessment, skills development, and wellbeing). The analysis takes a multi-year approach and draws on a sample of 200 participants from UK Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) for each of the five years 2021-2025 (1000 participants in total).
