An investigation into human related factors for enhanced supply chain resilience: a systematic literature review

In today's turbulent business environment, the significance of supply chain resilience (SCRES) has surged. Although SCRES capabilities and their potential impact on performance have been extensively explored, supply chain management (SCM) remains human-centric and depends heavily on individuals and teams making effective decisions. However, the extant literature on individual- and team-level capabilities required to enhance SCRES remains fragmented. This study addresses this gap through a systematic literature review (SLR) of extant knowledge in this area. We develop an integrative framework of Dynamic Human-related Capabilities for resilience by extending the Dynamic Managerial Capability (DMC) theory to examine how individuals and teams enhance SCRES. Although relevant, DMC theory mainly emphasises managers’ roles within organisations. To provide a more comprehensive understanding of human related capabilities for enhanced SCRES, we extend the analysis to employees and teams, within and across organisations. We examine research inquiries and analytical models from 77 studies, focusing on three dynamic human-related capabilities: (i) social capital, (ii) human capital, and (iii) cognition. We identify key practices associated with each capability and explain their roles in enhancing SCRES. Furthermore, we propose a future research agenda that puts human-centric factors at the core of SCRES.
