El agua arrasó todo: la inundación de 1967 en Buenos Aires

In October 1967, a massive flood inundated much of the Buenos Aires metropolitan area, particularly the southern bank of the Riachuelo River. The water left at least 63 dead, 50 missing, 130,000 displaced, and millions of residents with material losses. Villa Jardín, at that time the quintessential shantytown of the metropolis, was particularly devastated. The great flood lasted for weeks, during which it held the attention of millions of Argentinians: it made the front page of newspapers alongside the news of Che Guevara's death in Bolivia, it was broadcast on television, and it left indelible marks on the walls of the neighborhood and in the memories of its residents. The photographs and testimonies gathered in this book are part of a collective investigation into the impact of environmental disasters in an urban space characterized by inequality in access to basic social and human rights and the right to the city.
