Neuropsychological assessment with older autistic people: Current knowledge and key considerations

This special issue affords the opportunity to consider the presentation and needs of older autistic people. One consequence of ageing for all of us is cognitive changes, and for some, development of neurodegenerative conditions such as dementia. Little is known about cognitive changes in later life and presentation of dementia in those who are autistic, and how this may impact on clinical (neuro) psychologists’ assessments of these individuals if they present to services. This article aims to summarise pertinent issues in this domain to facilitate clinical assessment and formulation.
