Abstract
Ongoing excavations at Thornton Abbey have revealed a number of unexpected aspects of the Augustinian monastery--including the grave of a priest who died on the site 700 years ago this month. Many grave markers at Thornton Abbey appear to have been destroyed to make mortar for post-medieval construction, but the grave of the priest revealed a surprisingly intact skeleton and fragments of the wooden coffin
