Abstract
This article introduces the special issue „Diversity, Intersectionality, and Gender in Journalism” and situates it within the broader context of German media and communication research. It identifies existing gaps and discusses how the contributions in this issue advance scholarly debates on diversity and gender in journalism. The articles in this issue offer a broad spectrum of perspectives, ranging from (diversity-)critical approaches and new empirical insights into gender in journalism and journalism studies to analyses of diversity in light of evolving journalistic roles and responsibilities shaped by technological innovation. The introduction concludes by reflecting on the challenges of researching diversity, intersectionality, and gender in journalism and calls for a critical research agenda that also fosters self-reflection on the norms, standards, and structures of German communication studies.
