Abstract
Many people are surprised when they discover that there is malaria in birds or that it is found in all the different climates throughout the world, yet Avian Malaria Parasites and Other Haemosporidia fills 932 pages on this topic. Not since Garnham's classic Malaria Parasites and Other Haemosporidia (1966) has such a complete work about the description of malaria species been written and illustrated. Avian malaria species provided much of the basis of the understanding and treatment of malaria, from Sir Ronald Ross' demonstration of parasite transmission to antimalarial discovery from testing compounds against the model Plasmodium gallinaceum. This book not only encompasses the findings of these historical studies but also provides a modern interpretation and includes many studies from rare Russian sources that have not previously been published in English.
