Abstract
We propose a Doctoral Training Community in Artificial Intelligence for Student Education and Research, to train PhD graduates to apply AI in careers in university teaching and research. PhD students and supervisors will be mainly based at University of Leeds, but we also welcome online PhD students, and volunteer external co-supervisors. A case study research topic is automated feedback generation for student assessment submissions, using Large Language Models. We show that the AISER doctoral training community will benefit student education and research, PhD recruitment, and PhD supervisors. The AISER Doctoral Training community will be open to all PhD applicants, including UK and International, for online and on-campus study, offering training, pastoral support and a sense of belonging for AISER students and supervisors.
