Abstract
This essay examines adultery and female infidelity in Equador, by Miguel Sousa Tavares. The detailed reading of the adultery of the female characters in this novel reveals, in turn, interpretive gaps in the narrative. Female infidelity is part of a broader strategy that is based on the formulation of a simplified narrative adopted by Sousa Tavares to present an acceptable version of the historical period to the reader that is part of a broader project that reformulates the history of Portugal.
