Abstract
Organisational structures increasingly favour team-based work. As a result, understanding the determinants of work team well-being is pivotal. This entry reviews key constructs, theories, and influential factors underpinning team well-being, distinguishing between cognitive and affective dimensions. Definitions often treat team well-being as an aggregate of individual well-being, but the emergence of team-level well-being as a shared experience is important. Theoretical frameworks, such as social identity and social contagion theories, provide explanations for affective convergence within teams. Notably, leadership emerges as a critical factor affecting team well-being. The consequences of team well-being span from team processes to broader organisational metrics. Future research directions encompass refining construct definitions, exploring temporal dynamics, understanding the unique challenges of virtual teams, and developing targeted interventions to enhance team well-being.
