Abstract
Augusto Graziani was one of the leading Italian economists of the twentieth century, extensively involved in the development of an alternative approach to neoclassical economics. He is also known as one of the founding fathers of the theory of the Monetary Circuit. A distinctive feature of his contributions is that they are based on original interpretations of economic history and history of economic thought. Over a long academic career, Graziani combined rigorous scholarly work with policy-relevant contributions, leading him to play a distinctive role in the economic and political debate in Italy. This article offers an outline of the life and work of Augusto Graziani.
