Abstract
Many argue that the world urgently needs to produce more food for an expanding global population in the face of climate change; and that food security can only be assured through high input and large scale agricultural production. The context for agricultural transformation is changing and a second green revolution must be more inclusive and less environmentally damaging than the first.
This paper explores agroecology as an alternative approach to agricultural transformation, offering low-input but knowledge intensive agriculture as a more inclusive and sustainable way forwards
