Abstract
As the drive towards cleaner energy for transportation ramps up, low emission alternative fuels to traditional Petro fuels are required. To this end this investigation focuses upon a HEFA type alternative fuel running on APU unit located at the Low Carbon Combustion Centre (LCCC) of the University of Sheffield with the aim of measuring the vibrations and instabilities when compared with the engine running on standard Jet A1. It should be noted that the HEFA fuel produced relatively harsh vibrations across the board with respect to Jet A1, this may have implications on engine in-service maintenance.
