Abstract
Who is this brief for? WaSH programmers and practitioners designing and implementing programs where they will engage with residents of informal settlements. Purpose of this brief: Development experts increasingly acknowledge the need for participatory approaches to development. This brief provides guidance on ways that programs and policies can encourage local ownership, self-reflection and analysis of WaSH situations and solutions, as well as encourage and support collaboration with local enabling actors to achieve positive change.
