Transferability of Urban Policy Measures

This chapter is concerned with the processes by which transport policy measures are transferred to specific urban locations from elsewhere. First, it gives overviews (on both global and EU levels) of guidelines describing generic good practice, which provide an important mechanism for achieving the first step in the transfer process, which is to start the circulation of information. Inevitably, though, such broadcasting of good practice can pay little attention to the specific needs and contexts of cities that might implement the measures, or to how the variety of actors involved in often complex policy-forming situations might make use of any available information. An increasing amount of academic research is being devoted to shedding light on such questions and this research provides the subject matter for the rest of the chapter. The chapter concludes by making two suggestions for further research.
