Abstract

This paper uses a materialist ecofeminist analysis to compare two forms of carbon dioxide removal (CDR): Afforestation for carbon capture and La Via Campesina’s proposals for soil carbon storage through a transition to ‘food sovereignty’. It argues that adopting an ecofeminist perspective allows us to see why afforestation for carbon capture fails to tackle the root causes of climate change. Additionally, this ecofeminist perspective can give us insight into the contrasting position of small farmers between both forms of CDR.
