Scar management: using silicone-based products in primary health care

Silicone-based wound care products can be used for non-invasive, preventive and therapeutic scar management in high-risk patients. Excessive scarring may be distressing to the individual and may occur even after minor injuries. GPs play an essential role in taking appropriate measures to support these patients physically and psychologically, but approaches in primary care have varied considerably. To help with this, an interdisciplinary expert panel has developed easy-to-follow recommendations for the use of silicone-based products to support healthcare professionals in primary care who are dealing with patients at risk of scarring.
