Abstract
Despite the inherit understanding within the engineering community surrounding the importance of optimal siting and layouts for wind farms, the current planning consent regime in the UK does not take into consideration the energy yield potential of wind developments during the application process. In this paper, the question of energy yield and the role it plays for the viability of a wind development is discussed as well as how this should be reflected in the planning system.
