Abstract
This paper describes the preliminary results of research aiming to develop an improved understanding of heat -induced spalling of modern high-performance concrete, and to find a sustainable spalling -mitigation solution by using fibres recovered from end-of- life tyres. The Heat - Transfer Rate Inducing System (H-TRIS) at The University of Edinburgh was used to asses s the influence of the fibres on spalling propensity . The results show that the recycled polymer fibres can eliminate spalling at the EC2 recommended dosages for virgin polypropylene fibres, opening the way for a more sustainable solution to this problem.
