Abstract
Armoured flexible conveyor (a.f.c.) structures used on longwall coal-faces comprise some 100-200 robust steel trays loosely joined end-to-end to permit vertical floor undulations to be followed, at least approximately. This allows a degree of vertical steering to be attempted by control of the height of the floor cut by the cutter-loader machine which generally rides of the a.f.c structure.
