Abstract
Erosion and erosion-corrosion are significant threats in the oil and gas industry. Erosion-corrosion is attributed to the combination of electrochemical dissolution due to the presence of corrosive agents and mechanical damage caused by particle impingement. For this study, Acoustic Emission (AE) signals are recorded at various impact angles under erosion and erosion-corrosion conditions using the Submerged Impinging Jet (SIJ) system. Laboratory experiments were carried-out at 15°, 30°, 45° and 90° nominal impact angles. Parameters such as flow velocity, solution temperature and sand loading were controlled in both conditions. A correlation between AE signal and metal loss is produced and the influence of corrosion on AE signal attenuation is also highlighted.
